There is a reddish inflammation of penis glans. This usually happens after sex or (and) in warm (humid) conditions.
Though it regresses after a little while sometimes it may take days. It is not attractive and it makes us questioning 'what is going on'?
What is the reason and if it is any dangerous? Is it a sexually transmitted disease?
We can relax. Though it doesn't look any pretty there is no danger involved.
There are simple ways of getting it healed and preventing it from further reoccurrence.
This is because under the foreskin it is usually wet and moist. The prevention is very simple.
After shower and after washing the penis glans while the foreskin is fully retracted make sure you'll dry it well.
That can be achieved in several ways. From a simple one such as sitting with retracted foreskin for a few minutes to blowing dry air on the penis glans with e.g. hair dryer.
This we should do at least once a day regardless of having sex or not. While showering.
If this would not help it is recommended to see your doctor.
The redness is caused by bacteria associated with the growth of yeast (candida). Moist environment is ideal for this to happen. It causes redness and inflammation. Good hygiene will prevent this.
Balanitis may also itch a little. It does not make any difference if you use condom or not.
The best way to wash the penis is without using any soaps. Warm water is sufficient.
Retract the foreskin then wash glans with clean warm water. Then dry it using any of the above mentioned methods before returning the foreskin to cover the glans as per normal.
Medication is seldom required.
