Viagra and Altitude Sickness

Viagra and altitude sickness? Sildenafil found to be an efficient drug to treat both pulmonary hypertension and altitude sickness according to research.

The real cause of altitude sickness is still not known. It is not caused by lower oxygen levels as one would expect. It is related more to lower atmospheric pressure. Starting from headache and fatigue as the primary symptoms these may develop into more serious conditions even death.

Trials were conducted at high altitude levels in Europe. Tests showed the group administered three daily doses of Sildenafil had their systolic blood pressure returned to normal while the test group receiving only placebo continued to have high pulmonary arterial pressure. There were no adverse side effects recorded with men taking Sildenafil.

Pulmonary hypertension is a rare but very dangerous condition with high blood pressure in lung arteries. Patient suffers with shortage of breath, nausea, loss of consciousness and additional symptoms.

Viagra (sildenafil) is commercially the oldest medication available to treat male impotence. Sildenafil under the name 'Revatio' was introduced to treat pulmonary hypertension by reducing blood pressure in lung arties.
